Purim

Celebrating  a Divinely Orchestrated Deliverance
Purim 2024 begins on Saturday night, March 23 and continues through Sunday, March 24 to its conclusion at sundown. ( In Jerusalem, Purim is celebrated for two days and is concluded on Monday, March 25, at sundown.)
Congregation Beth Shalom will celebrate Purim on Sunday, March 24, 2024, beginning at 2:00 p.m.

What is Purim? In a nutshell, Purim is an annual celebration that takes place on the 14th of the Hebrew month of Adar (which occurs during late winter/ early spring of the Hebrew Calendar). It is the date set aside to commemorate the Divinely Orchestrated Deliverance of the Hebrew people, in ancient Persia, from the evil plot of Haman: the Amalakite, to destroy; kill and annihilate all Hebrews , young, old, men, women, and infants, in a single day.

Since Haman had thrown “lots” to determine when he would carry out his diabolical plan, the  commemoration was thus named Purim; meaning “lots”. This event is recorded in the Book of Ester (Megillah) located in the Tanakh.

What to expect at a Purim celebration. Expect to be amazed! The celebration of Purim is Joyous.  Purim is the holiday when people “dress up” in costumes, silly or otherwise, enjoy a festive meal, read the Megillah,  dance to Purim specific songs, exchange small gifts of chocolate or small items to commemorate the day, and give charity to those of  in need, especially within our Mishpacha; either individually or through and to a Jewish organization. Please join Congregation Beth Shalom  for the celebration of Purim 2024.  We look forward to seeing you there.
